(2021) - (lazy way - Stół bez nóg) This is a Polish tongue twister “Stół z powyłamywanymi nogami” meaning a table with broken legs (a metaphor). This is my favorite Polish tongue twister and is it often used for teaching Polish children (it’s a favorite among adults who enjoy using it to annoy children). The difficulty lies not in the sequence of specific difficult Polish intonation, but rather in the middle part of the ‘powyłamywanymi’ word – a source of eternal fun. This is an equivalent to the English version “break a leg.” This is the first painting in the series and features my sister as the model (painted during the beginning of 2021). Through stylized clothing, typography, and polish folk art this 3ft x 5ft mural explores the polish idiom in a fun and unique way that provided me a platform for future murals.

‘Jakoś to będzie’ (pronounced ‘Ya-kosh toe ben-jay’) Literally, the phrase means ‘things will work out in the end’ – but it’s so much more than that. Rather than sitting around and hoping things will work out by themselves, 'Jakoś to będzie' is acting without worrying about the consequences. It’s reaching for the impossible. It’s taking risks, and not being afraid. We can do anything, no matter what obstacles we face along the way.

In the past year those who know me very closely know that I have had (like many others) quite the year. It was truly a roller coaster that started out preparing for my first gallery show with Detroit Shipping Co., a bit of traveling visiting family, painting, moving (not once but 3 times), Sick loved ones, heartbreak, planned and executed one of my largest murals to date, my father fell ill to a stroke (he is ok and recovering), a group gallery show with City Walls Detroit, crazy things happening in the world, women’s rights, war, hardship, Ukraine, and covid.

We can choose to crumble, or we can put one foot in front of the other and just keep going day to day, even – when it seems impossible. It may seem like a rather odd takeaway from all of this, but I can’t help but feel that I am blossoming into the person I am meant to be. and for that I am grateful.

Co ma wisieć, nie utonie means, what is supposed to hang, won’t drown! This one is more about fatalism and basically means that what is about to happen will happen. Use it when you feel like some things in life are just bound to be the way they are and there’s nothing people can do about it. (2022) “Góra to Dół, Dół to Góra” means, Up is Down and Down is Up. This is a fun play on words in English meaning “opposite day.” For Instance, have you ever had a day where everything is happening the opposite way you would expect it - good or bad? It almost feels like an out of body experience where you’re feeling like an impostor in your own life. This digital painting features a stylized character whose clothes and pose intertwine between letters and defy the laws of gravity.

(2022) Pasowacjak woldo karety means, To Fit Like an Ox Into a carriage. The English equivalent of this would be, To Stick out like a Sore Thumb, or be your authentic self. And whoever said that was a bad thing? This digital painting features a non-binary stylized character whose clothes and pose intertwine between typography, complemented with a funky background. The idea of tattoos has been more widely accepted in 2022. Tattoos, our hair, outfits all reflect who we are. Sometimes ones style is louder than the typical person.

(2022) Wyświadczył Mi Niedźwiedzią Przysługę means, he did me a bear’s service. What is a ‘bear’s service’? Well, it’s a disservice. The phrase refers to a favor which, when granted, ends up being more trouble than it was worth. The traditional explanation is that when a bear’s deadly pat hits you on the head, it kills both you and the fly it’s trying to swat. This digital painting features a stylized character whose clothes, pose and cleaning bucket intertwines between typography behind a patterned background. The cleaning bucket reflects when someone fills your cleaning solution with too much soap. While it was very kind for them to do that for you, we will end up with sticky soapy floors.
